Set Up Data Governance

The setup wizard tailors initial coverage to your organization and creates real enforcement policies. Before you begin, make sure Data Governance is enabled.

From Data Governance → Overview, select Set Up Data Governance. You can run the wizard again later to update your profile and coverage.

Step 1: Describe your organization

Select:

  • The regions where your organization operates
  • The industries relevant to your organization

Both a region and an industry are required to continue. These selections are used to recommend coverage areas and compliance frameworks.

The wizard groups recommendations by why they apply:

  • Universal protection
  • Industry
  • Compliance framework
  • Jurisdiction

Review the proposed coverage areas and detector counts. You can turn individual coverage areas on or off before continuing. Previously enabled coverage that is not part of the new recommendation remains visible so it is not silently removed.

Step 3: Scope the policies

For each selected coverage area:

  1. Review the detectors that the policy will use.
  2. Keep all detectors selected or narrow the list.
  3. Choose an enforcement mode: Monitor, Redact, or Block.
  4. Choose the MCP servers where the policy applies.
  5. Select Finish.

The wizard defaults new policies to Monitor and selects all current MCP servers. Review these defaults before finishing.

If a coverage area has no selected MCP server, its policy is created disabled so it does not unexpectedly apply everywhere.

tip

Start in Monitor and review real findings before moving policies to Redact or Block. See the full recommended rollout.
